Apple’s New Solar Powered Spaceship Shaped Head Office

Everyone know that Apple have been amazing the whole world since the beginning and now the apple has set for "Apple’s New Solar Powered Spaceship Shaped Head Office". Isn't that amazing? Steve Jobs' vision for making " the best office building in the world" is coming to life in Cupertino, California.

In April 2006, Steve Jobs announced to the city council of Cupertino, California that Apple had acquired nine contiguous properties to build a second campus, the Apple Campus 2, to be located one mile east of existing facility.

After many delays the project was finally started in 2014 and is scheduled for completion in 2016. The design is like a wheel or some say space ship with a green space in middle of 4 story high rem of wheel. The detailed are mentioned.

Apple's proposed new headquarters-a 2.8-million-square-foot spaceship parked in a verdant man made forest in the northeast corner of Cupertino. Apple Campus 2, which was approved by city officials last month, will sit on a 176 acre plot in the south bay of 60000 - a site that was once a home to HP and  Compaq.

The massive doughnut of the building is the jewel of the campus designed by star architect Norman Foster, whose firm's well known works include the bullet shaped Gherkin in London and the restored Reich stag in Berlin, the four-story ring will put 13,000 engineers and designers under a single curving roof. It won't be the only place to find the Apple employees since a cluster of buildings tucked at the southern edge will be reserved for R&D. However the spaceship is the main attraction.

The buildings look a lot like huge iPhone with black glass on top being the solar panels which would be the source of power. According to the video presented to Cupertino City officials last month by Apple, Stefan Behling ,one of the Foster and Partners architects working on the project summed the building to be one of the most environmentally sustainable projects on this scale anywhere in the world. The great news is that the world is facing the massive amount of energy crisis and the plan is for the facility to run entirely on renewable energy, drawing largely from on-site fuel cell plants and rooftop photovoltic arrays. Natural ventilation and radiant cooling mean that the spaceship won't need air conditioning for some 70 percent of the year. Lisa Jackson, one who headed the EPA for The Obama administration has joined apple as Environmental Director.

The internal arrangement of the office seems to be the mystery and some architects have raised the doubts about the wisdom of stubborn circular floor plan at a time where more flexible re configurable work-space are in vogue. It's worth comparing Apple's new circular home to other headquarter jobs had had in designing. Once a stubborn idea created a MAC and lets hope this stubborn idea as told might results in. This project is pushing the boundaries in technology in almost every aspect.

In the company's own words, the new campus will offer " a serene environment reflecting Apple's Brand values of innovation, ease of use and beauty." The greenest part of the development isn't even the building itself but everything surrounding it. The rendering shows something that hardly resembles a corporate campus. What it is, really, is a huge park.

Today the site is 20 percent landscape-the rest covered by buildings and asphalt. By 2016, when the new apple campus is complete, it will be 80 percent landscape. Currently the plot has 4,500 tress when Apple is done there will be 7,000.

If you are thinking that "Oh now such huge company now the products might be cheaper" then you are wrong about that. As with so many of Apple's products, the unique blend of vision and precise detail won't come cheap. Still, a stubborn adherence to a singular vision is what gave us trial blazing products like the iPhone and the iPad. May be the formula will work for headquarters, too.

I wonder if this will be the last great thing that Apple builds or will the world get something really new and innovative out of the spaceship headquarters.
